Psychosocial counseling when testing for human immunodeficiency virus: what to focus on?

Introduction. Voluntary anonymous HIV counseling and testing can be an effective tool to reduce the behavior that has high risks of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV) B (HBV) transmission. The dissemination general information on HCV, HBV risky is not as much importance specific individual infection-related sexual risk behavior. objective was identify HIV/HCV/HBV-related factors have discussed during psychosocial counselingto help focus his/her Methods materials. study conducted base Saint-Petersburg Center for Control AIDS with participation 90 individuals who voluntary applied testing. Participants’ behavioral knowledge were assessed by specifically developed structured questionnaire. level anxiety measured State-Train Anxiety Inventory (STAI adapted Hanin), need extreme-risk Sensation Seeking Scale (Zuckerman). Results. Only 50 % participants use condom their steady partner always or almost always. In 62 cases, partner’s HIV-status unknown. Many agree transmission occurs after contact HIV-infected person. situational higher those do repeatedly. Those are more likely seek new sensations other often. Conclusion. Motivational intervention pre- post-counseling HIV/HCV/HBV discussion difficulties means protection individual’s resources changing protect him/her-self from infection viral hepatitis.
